Barna Waste Solid Transfer/Recycling Station

Barna Waste Solid Transfer/Recycling Station

TES were employed to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement and Waste License Application for Barna Waste Ltd, in accordance with their obligations under the Environmental Impact Assessment, Waste Licensing and Planning Regulations, for the construction a Solid Waste Transfer/ Recycling Station and Civic Amenity Site.

The Transfer/ Recycling Station was designed to handle Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) collected by Barna Waste Ltd. and other private waste contractors, and is located on the current Barna Waste Recycling Depot site, north of Galway City on the N84, the main Galway to Castlebar road, in the townland of Carrowbrowne.

The principal processes of the facility are:

  1. The collection of domestic and commercial waste at the Transfer/ Recycling Station by Barna Waste Ltd. and private refuse collection vehicles, the compaction of this waste into sealed containers to reduce the overall volume of waste and the transport of the compacted waste to the final disposal site. At its design capacity approximately 190 tonnes of waste will pass through the Transfer/ Recycling Station per average day.
  2. The depositing and sorting of recyclable waste and household hazardous waste at the Civic Amenity Site for collection and re-use or safe disposal elsewhere.
  3. The collection and treatment of construction and demolition waste, and the recovery of soil, crushed stone, ferrous metal and timber.
